National Ride to School Day is an important event on the calendar as it promotes being active and healthy to young people, encouraging them to ride, roll, skate, scoot or walk to school.
Kempsey South Public School celebrated the event this year with teachers Mr Davies and Mrs Foster meeting students and escorting them to school on their bikes and scooters. It is important that students are given every opportunity to keep fit and healthy. This message ties in with our healthy eating and cooking programs we have running and I think that is why it was so well supported by our students.
They were supported by Adam Townsend, owner of Ride Bike Scooter and Skate who talked to students the about the importance or bike safety before running them through some of the essentials of bike maintenance.
Adam said, "It is fantastic to see so many kids keeping fit and healthy by riding or scooting to school. I think they all learned a great deal today and had a lot of fun in the process, which is the main idea."
