English

English study is mandatory in NSW from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Students learn about the English language through written, spoken and visual texts of increasing complexity as they progress through their schooling.

An understanding of the English language is central to how we communicate and essential for intellectual, social and emotional development.

The study of English should develop a love of literature and learning and be challenging and enjoyable. It develops skills to enable students to experiment with ideas and expression, to become active, independent and lifelong learners, to work with each other and to reflect on their learning.

Where reading is valued

Literacy and being literate are keys to success after school.

At Kempsey South Public School, this means getting children prepared for life as a member of 21st century society.

Our kids don't just learn the basics, we encourage creativity and imaginative thought, support individual learning with one iPad to every two and a half infants students, and inspire a love of learning through activities like our BookWeek parade and reading as communities programs.

Our students learn to not just write sentences, but to create multi-media texts such as our Kindergarten students who have been creating movies about their reading experiences.

Community involved in BookWeek Parade

At Kempsey South Public School we take every opportunity to extend and challenge our learners through real-world and valuable experiences.

We held our BookWeek parade in an explosion of colour and excitement, adding significance by not only inviting parents and friends but also Dalaigur and Scribbly-Gum pre-schools. Every child paraded in front of the whole school carrying the book that their character was from.

Event organiser Pam Foster commented that, "It is a fantastic day. The kids and the pre-schoolers have all had a wonderful time and the excitement in the lead-up has been palpable.

"It is just so pleasing to see so many parents and friends here today to encourage and support their children in their learning."

By keeping learning enjoyable and significant, we are able to offer the best possible education to our young learners.
